Warning about the
Inherent Dangers of Boys
Lacrosse
Student athletes and parents
should be aware that Boys
Lacrosse, like all sports,
will always have inherent
dangers. Although rare,
death or catastrophic injury
can result from
participation in this sport,
and care should be taken by
all concerned to minimize
such dangers through the use
of appropriate equipment,
proper training methods and
common sense.
The WALOA encourages student
athletes in all sports, and
their parents, to discuss
risks and risk minimization
with coaches, school
administrators and state
high school association
officials.

Attention, all club lacrosse players, ex-players, and persons of
interest. There is a crisis occurring in lacrosse in Washington State,
and we need your help.
Lacrosse has been an important part of your life. Through lacrosse, you
have had the opportunity to enjoy many good times and experience playing
a great game. You may not be aware of the number of people that
contributed their time and effort to ensure that your athletic
experiences would be memorable ones. It requires contributions of the
entire lacrosse community to provide a positive lacrosse experience for
players. One group of dedicated professionals that work at every level
of the game are the lacrosse officials. Without officials, you would
never have played lacrosse. Their jobs are crucial, and their numbers
are in short supply. We need your help. In Washington State, the
phenomenal growth of lacrosse has made us victims of our success. There
are close to 50 boys high school teams, 45 middle school boy's teams and
20 middle school teams, as well as a burgeoning Lightning league of
4-5-6 graders of 12 teams. That's a whole lot of games over a
March-to-May season!
Over the past few years, many club players and officials from other
sports have stepped into the breach
and now wear lacrosse stripes, as well as their club jerseys. Despite their
efforts, we WILL NOT have enough officials to cover all the games this
year, unless we recruit and train additional officials.
I am asking you to take your skill and knowledge of the game and help
the younger players by joining us as officials. Feed your passion and
devotion to the game of lacrosse and honor the traditions of this game.
In doing this you bring honor to yourself and the teams and coaches you
have played for in the past. You will make it possible for the upcoming
players to share in those traditions. Officiating is fun, and it's a
great way to earn $ money $ and give back to the game you love.
Please respond positively to this request. The game needs you.
